Released in 1968, George Lautner’s delectable thriller ‘Le Pacha” surely wouldn’t have achieved such cult status without its fabulous soundtrack, concocted by one of the most audacious duos of their time, the magic tandem of Serge Gainsbourg/Michel Colombier.
Always at the pinnacle of new rhythms and sensitive to sounds coming from across the Channel and the USA, the two men capture the essence of this pop and psychedelic era to compose two incredible themes for this now historical 7”. Two high ambitious tracks which perfectly crystallise their sense of purity and dynamism and blithely brush with the realms of genius.
First up, the visionary and incomparable “Requiem pour un Con”, abstract avant gardist dazzle with a forever grounded rhythmic to which Gainsbourg slams words in a spoken/sung method unique to him, pioneering to the rap of the future. A great moment in robotic funk and a stroke of genius which never ceases to fascinate to this day. Just as minimal, the instrumental “Psychasténie” and its sinusoidal sitar we find on the B side itself takes on the form of a delicious mantra draped in Indian colours and infused with the heavy scent of opiates. A bare and obsessive jerk which spins continuously around and allows us a glimpse of an unlikely psychedelic nirvana.
This record, which forever seals the improbable meeting of Gabin/Lautner/Gainsbourg now definitively holds its place in legend.

Sorti en 1968, le savoureux polar de Georges Lautner  « Le Pacha » n’aurait sans doute pas la même aura de culte sans sa fabuleuse bande son concoctée par un des duos les plus audacieux de son époque, le tandem magique Serge Gainsbourg/Michel Colombier.
Toujours à l’affût des nouveaux rhythmes et sensibles aux sonorités venus d’outre-manche ou des USA, les deux hommes captent la substance de cette période pop et psychédélique et composent deux thèmes hallucinants pour ce 45t désormais historique. Deux morceaux de haut vol qui cristallisent parfaitement leur sens de l’épure, de la dynamique, et qui tutoient allègrement le génie pur.
Tout d’abord le visionnaire et inégalable « Requiem pour un Con », fulgurance avant gardiste et abstraite à la rhythmique toujours aussi terrassante, sur laquelle Gainsbourg claque des mots selon une méthode parlé/chanté qu'il fera désormais sienne et qui annonce déjà ce que sera le rap. Un grand moment de funk robotique et un coup de génie qui fascine encore et encore. Tout aussi minimal, l’instrumental « Psychasténie » et son sitar sinusoïdal que l’on retrouve sur la face B prend quand à lui la forme d’un savoureux mantra aux couleurs indiennes et aux fortes effluves opiacées. Un jerk décharné et obsessionnel qui tourne sur lui même en un mouvement sans fin et nous laisse entrevoir un improbable nirvana psychédélique.
Ce disque qui scèle à jamais l’improbable rencontre Gabin/Lautner/Gainsbourg appartient définitivement à la légende.
